Exodus 33:7-23
Have you ever thought about how
great a privilege prayer is?
We get to speak directly to a holy,
righteous, wise, and powerful God!
That blessing comes only through
a relationship with Jesus.
The book of Hebrews tells us that we
can boldly come to the throne
because we have a mediator in Jesus.
But it wasn't that way before Jesus came.
Once the priesthood was established,
the people in the Old Testament had to
go through the priest to get to God.
Before that, God spoke directly
to people whom He chose and
they would then speak to others.
God walked and talked with Adam
and Eve, Enoch, Noah, and Abraham.
He met regularly with Moses to
give him all the instructions and
laws to relay to the Israelites.
They even set up a tent outside the camp
for Moses to enter and meet with God.
The people could tell by a special
cloud hovering around the tent
that God was with Moses.
They never personally got to speak directly
to God or hear directly from Him.
Moses was God's spokesman. Today?
Jesus in heaven, the Word of God on earth,
and the Holy Spirit in believers all work
together for us to hear from God and
through prayer, we can speak directly to Him.
Such an awesome privilege!
How often do you take advantage of it?
Prayer: Father, thank You for the privilege of prayer.
Thank You for Your inspired word.
Help us to see the value
in spending time with You.
P.S. Hebrews 1:1 tells us that God spoke
in many different ways in the early days.
He walked and talked with Adam and Eve
and others. He took on human form
for brief periods to talk with Abraham and Joshua.
He talked with Moses as if man to man.
He even wrestled with Jacob once!
He spoke to prophets through dreams,
visions, and angels. Hebrews 1:2 says that
in these last days, He has spoken through His Son.
John 1 tells us the Word became flesh and
dwelt among us and we beheld His glory.
